Inspiration Our team leader, Rishik Reddy Yesgari, inspired our group to pursue a data classification project where we leverage our individual skills of front end, back end, and machine learning.
What it does Our project, Shroomify, takes an image input from the user and sends it to a machine learning model which classifies a mushrooms edibility, and the probability of the edibility.
How we built it The machine learning part used Deep Learning from TensorFlow to make a cNN to classify mushrooms. The back end utilized Flask, and JavaScript to handle image input and call the Machine Learning model. The website is designed using HTML, and CSS .
Challenges we ran into Connecting back end, with the machine learning model was one of our biggest challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We're proud of our ability to create an accurate Machine Learning model, as well as completing a full stack project as first time hackers.
What we learned We learned version control with GitHub, Machine learning concepts with TensorFlow, back end website routing with Flask, and website creation.
What's next for Shroomsify We plan to upgrade our algorithm for detecting mushrooms, as well as implementing a feature in which past user inputs further teach the model.
