Inspiration
We wanted to build a website that allowed users to search for art based on specific characteristics of the art such as region, date, and artists, as well as more abstract features such as conveying emotion.
What it does
While we could not achieve a full implementation of this within a 24 hour period, we were able to design and create a domain, showmesome.art, that allows for a more simple search of our art database (the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection). For instance, a user can enter the site, which features a random selection of artworks from the database, and search for “cats”, and in return receive a selection of images containing cats.
How we built it
The UI was designed in Figma, and then we implemented a front end and back end for the site.
Challenges we ran into
Using NLP to implement search features to the extent to which we would’ve ideally liked, and having enough time to implement some of these features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designing and creating some of the functionality that we wanted, and implementing some search capabilities!
What we learned
“No matter how long you think something will take, it will take twice as long!”
What's next for showmesome.art
Implementing a more complex search feature and using NLP to find art based on emotion!
