Inspiration

The idea for showerGarden emerged from the increasing urgency around global water conservation. With daily activities like showering consuming significant amounts of water, we realised there was a gap in solutions that made reducing water usage both fun and intuitive. We wanted to create something that not only raises awareness - as we found in our research that many participants are not aware of their water usage - but also engages users with simple, rewarding feedback—thus, the idea of collecting virtual plants as a reflection of water savings was born.

What it does

showerGarden encourages users to shorten their shower duration by tying water conservation to a gamified element of plant collection. For every minute of water saved, users help their virtual plant collection thrive. The app tracks how much water they’ve saved, displays their progress through collecting plants, and shows water bill savings over time.

How we built it

Using Figma for the wireframe and hi-fidelity design, we crafted an interface that motivates users with clear, visual progress (plant collection). The app’s key functionality revolves around calculating water savings based on typical shower times and displaying that data through gamified elements like plant collection.
