Inspiration

Shotgun is inspired by the need to enhance road safety by addressing the emotional well-being of drivers. With the alarming statistics on road rage and fatigue-related accidents, we aimed to create a solution that uses AI to detect and respond to drivers' emotional states in real-time.

What it does

Shotgun is a driver assistance system designed to prevent road rage and drowsy driving by using Hume AI to detect emotions such as fatigue, stress, anger, and distraction from the driver’s voice and facial expressions. It provides real-time alerts through visual and auditory signals and offers personalized recommendations. The system can also suggest nearby rest areas using the Google Maps API.

How we built it

We built Shotgun using Hume AI for emotion detection from voice and facial expressions, integrated with an alert system that provides real-time visual and auditory signals. The system offers adaptive driving recommendations and can suggest nearby rest areas using the Google Maps API. The backend allows for personalized responses based on the driver's name and age.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges in accurately detecting emotions in various driving conditions and integrating real-time alerts without causing additional distractions. Ensuring the system’s recommendations were both helpful and non-intrusive required extensive testing and fine-tuning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a system that can significantly enhance road safety by addressing both road rage and drowsy driving. Our integration of Hume AI and Google Maps API provides a seamless and personalized experience for drivers, promoting safer driving behaviors.

What we learned

We learned the importance of real-time data processing and the challenges of integrating multiple AI systems into a cohesive solution. Understanding drivers' needs and ensuring our system could respond appropriately to various emotional states was a crucial learning experience.

What's next for Shotgun

Next, we plan to expand Shotgun’s features to include more advanced emotion detection capabilities and additional de-escalation techniques. We also aim to collaborate with car manufacturers (Tesla built-in camera) to integrate Shotgun directly into vehicles, making it more accessible to drivers worldwide.
