Inspiration
A passion to help improve the lives of those with disabilities so that they can live with more freedom and go about their lives with ease.
What it does
- It allows the user to enter their destination and find the most accessible route.
- Present all the important data regarding their destination such as the time it would take to reach and possible obstacles they could face.
- Mark uneven or paved roads as unsafe on the map.
- Gives details such as the number of elevators, automatic doors and ramps.
- It takes feedback and ratings from the user regarding buildings and routes to improve the app.
How we built it
- we used vertica's simple hackathon template to implement our user feedback database.
- combined it with flask to create html pages.
- used maps API for the program.
Challenges we ran into
- Combining our Maps API with the python code
- getting information from the HTML form to our database
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.
- Offering users the ability to provide feedback about locations
- Displaying the user generated content on the screen. (By using Vertica)
What we learned
- How to use sql
- How to include APIs
- How to use JavaScript efficiently
What's next for ShortCut
- We'll work on combining our website code with the app to create a more user friendly interface.
- We plan to include wearable device compatibility, so that the user can get an alert about any accessibility issues by their geo-location.
- Expand it to more locations beyond the Wellesley campus.
