Inspiration
Recently, a 21-year-old Indian student named Surendra Singh Choudhary, widely known online as Bittu Tabahi, went viral for single-handedly clearing massive amounts of plastic and garbage out of the polluted Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh, India. We noticed in the comment section that locals were very motivated to join him the next time as well; users across the world apraised for his work and felt inspired to do the same in their own communities.
What it does
We created a website that encourages users to clean up local beaches alongside a community. Users also have direct connections with global cleaners to stay connected and motivate each other to keep our beaches clean.
How we built it
Figma for lo-fi/brainstorm Claude code for building the MVP
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out the verification part of how the user would verify legitimately if they collected trash (thanks to Jaffar)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Figuring out the Mapbox API keys and getting this cool interface of a globe users can explore
What we learned
Despite given 17 goals, it was actually very hard to think of specific UX problems related in the specific goal. There were several ideas to go off of but this hackathon really challenged the way we though from a UX viewpoint.
What's next for Shore Up
Potentially adding some sort of AI assistant to help accelerate a big problem/feature we can add to Shore Up.
