ShopSmart BD — AI Shopping Advisor

An AI-powered shopping advisor that understands Bangla, Banglish, and English to help Bangladeshi shoppers find, compare, and choose the right products within their budget.

Inspiration

Bangladesh has many e-commerce platforms, but choosing the right product within a fixed budget can still be confusing. We wanted to build an AI shopping assistant that understands what people actually need instead of simply showing more products.

What it does

ShopSmart BD lets users describe their shopping needs in Bangla, Banglish, or English. Gemini AI understands their requirements and recommends suitable products with AI Match scores, explanations, product comparisons, personalized AI advice, and smart budget optimization.

How we built it

We built ShopSmart BD using React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Node.js, Express, and Gemini AI. Gemini handles natural-language understanding, product recommendations, comparisons, product evaluation, and budget optimization. The frontend provides a responsive e-commerce experience with interactive AI features.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was making AI recommendations useful and personalized rather than generic. We also had to design the AI responses, product data, and frontend experience so everything worked smoothly within a short hackathon timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a functional AI-first shopping experience in a limited amount of time. The ability to understand Bangla/Banglish shopping queries, generate personalized recommendations, compare products, and optimize a user's budget makes ShopSmart BD more than a traditional product catalog.

What we learned

We learned how to integrate Gemini AI into a real-world application and combine AI with structured product data. We also learned how important prompt design, user experience, and reliable fallback handling are when building AI-powered products.

What's next for ShopSmart BD — AI Shopping Advisor

Next, we want to connect ShopSmart BD with real-time product prices and availability from Bangladeshi stores, add price tracking and alerts, improve personalized recommendations, and eventually support multiple e-commerce platforms from one AI-powered shopping assistant.
