Inspiration
During the COVID-19 Pandemic Shopping wait times have increased drastically. Even though most shopping lines are maintaining social distancing staying in a line for a long time could lead to possible exposure to infectious diseases such as COVID-19. ShopQuik is a mobile app that utilizes crowdsourced data and a realtime database to inform users on the current wait time at their local grocery stores so that they can go when the time is less. Currently located in Palo Alto ShopQuik is an app that will hopefully help people to go shopping when there are less people in line and help those people stay safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Elderly people are at risk with the virus so an application of this app can be in the elderly community and it can help them shop when there are less people. Though not just the elderly everybody can use this app to avoid the long lines at grocery stores. ShopQuik utilizes crowdsourced data or data derived from multiple people so that the wait time data is accurate. To store all of the crowdsourced data ShopQuik is integrated with the Firebase Realtime Database. Because of the realtime Database ShopQuik is always up to date and is updated really fast. The whole point of utilizing crowdsourced data is to have a lot of data. ShopQuik is smart and does not overload the database because it only utilizes the last 10 crowdsourced wait time entries. To understand ShopQuik a real life example can be helpful.
