How do you buy something for someone who has everything? How long do you have to browse before you find a perfect buy? Filters don't always help, we just need an assistant that knows.

What it does

Shoppy is your personal shopping assistant, helping you find the perfect products based on your preferences and needs. Whether you're searching for a specific item or need inspiration, Shoppy delivers tailored suggestions effortlessly. It’s more than just a shopping tool—it’s a helping hand in every deed, big or small.

How we built it

We developed Shoppy using a combination of Django for the backend and JavaScript for a dynamic and responsive frontend. We integrated OpenAI’s GPT for natural language understanding and the Shopify API for real-time product recommendations. The result is an AI-driven assistant capable of responding conversationally while also providing real, accurate product suggestions from online stores.

Challenges we ran into

One of the key challenges was ensuring seamless communication between our AI assistant and the Shopify API. We wanted responses to be fast, accurate, and personalized, which meant optimizing data retrieval and handling edge cases where product recommendations might not meet user expectations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud to have created a shopping assistant that delivers highly relevant and tailored product suggestions in real time. We successfully bridged the gap between conversational AI and real-world shopping, creating an intuitive experience that feels human.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned a lot about the intricacies of integrating AI with e-commerce platforms. We gained a deeper understanding of how to build and scale AI-driven features, as well as how to enhance the customer experience by leveraging AI’s ability to understand and adapt to user preferences.

What's next for Shopping assistant

The next step is expanding Shoppy’s functionality. We plan to integrate support for a broader range of online stores, enabling more diverse shopping options. We're also exploring image embeddings for enhanced product recommendations, 3D models for a richer visual experience, and AR/VR for customers to experience shopping beyond 2d.
