Inspiration
Online shopping has become cool, since the pandemic—but also lonely. I missed the joy of texting outfit pics, hyping up friends, and making impulsive "buy it now" decisions together. So I built ShopMates, a social shopping experience that brings back the chaos, vibes, and connection of a mall day with your friend-- from home.
What it does
ShopMates lets you:
Start a shared shopping session with a friend
Browse clothing and products together in real time
React with emojis and chat (Yap đź’¬)
“Try on” outfits with and get opinions
Build a shared cart and check out.
How we built it
We used Figma to prototype the entire user flow, including:
Landing page
Shared shopping room with real-time reactions
Building your shopping cart
We focused on making the UI vibey, intuitive, and social—drawing inspiration from co-op games, group chats, and fashion moodboards.
Challenges we ran into
- Making social interaction feel real and not just like another comment section.
- Designing a shopping experience that’s both personalized and shared
- Ran out of time to really play with aesthetics
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a functional prototype in 12 hours!
- Coming up with an app idea that people will actually want to use
What we learned
- Simplicity matters. You don’t need 50 features to create connection, just one button.
- People crave digital experiences that feel human. Socializing these experiences is important to keep us connected!
What's next for ShopMates
- Maybe add a shop solo feature?
- A video call feature?
