Inspiration

Grocery shopping is a weekly chore for students. Weekly deals that are hard to keep up with, prices varying across stores, and figuring out which grocery store to visit first wastes time. We wanted to automate this process so students can save money and time, to allow them to focus on things that matter.

What it does

ShopLyft is a one-stop automated shopping assistant:

  • Takes your shopping list and location.
  • Finds the best prices across major supermarkets.
  • Generates the optimal shopping route.
  • Auto-carts items on the supermarket’s site (like Coles & Woolworths) so you can just pick them up.

How we built it

  • Frontend: ReactJS.
  • Backend: FastAPI with a lightweight JSON database for our MVP.
  • AI Agent: ConnectOnion’s agentic AI
  • Web Extension: A browser plug-in with Manifest V3

Challenges we ran into

  • Creating a web extension as a funtionality to enable autocarting for major supermarket sites
  • UI/UX Animation for the brand mascot

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully implementing the auto-carting feature.
  • Implementing a clear solution that we are confident users will quickly adopt and actually use.

What we learned

  • Leveraging agentic AI for multi-step automation.
  • Balancing simplicity vs. scalability for an MVP.

What's next for ShopLyft

  • Expand to more supermarkets eg. Harris Farm and beyond groceries into general retail eg. Kmart.
  • Let users customize their price-vs-time preference.
