Inspiration

Why are they so many small businesses in the DMV area? This is the question that created what is now ShopLit. We discovered there are so many small businesses in the DMV area because many business owners don't have the opportunity to scale up their business. We made ShopLit to solve this problem.

What it does

ShopLit provides a platform for small businesses to easily connect with buyers around them and quickly boost their sales and revenue. Doing this will allow their businesses to grow much faster. We also provide Machine Learning-Based analytics to the business owners to help them decide what to stock their inventory with, show them buyer trends.

How we built it

We built a mobile app for this platform using: The Dart programming language, Flutter mobile development SDK, Andriod Development SDK,

Challenges we ran into

We were able to overcome the challenge of finding a cost-effective way of linking customers and their sellers while making a profit for the app itself.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to develop a working prototype that actually helps the success of small businesses in the area in just less than 24 hours.

What we learned

We learned that there are a lot of struggling small businesses in the area without a strong support system. We also learned that app development is an interesting spectrum that challenges developers to do better.

What's next for Shoplit

Improvements: -Total cost estimate (price and transportation) for location comparison. -Option for returns and refunds. -Networking platform between sellers. -Multi-language options to support a diverse customer base.
