Our inspiration was our robotics teacher, Gloria Rodriguez. She encouraged us to come to this event even though we had almost no experience in programming. In just 21 hours, we were able to collaborate as a team and learn to code with the Ruby language. Coming from an area that doesn't have the accessibility to the opportunists of technology very often, we are happy to have gotten the opportunity to come to this event and learn many aspects to programming. Coming in with no ideas was difficult but our combined creativity created something that we will continue to be proud of. Today we learned many things from professionals, and tomorrow we will be the professionals teaching the future generations.
What it does
Our project "ShopBot" was created to allow people to purchase items from impacted websites, e.g. supreme and Ticketmaster. Our project is basically a web crawler created by language; ruby. The bot necessarily inputs information at a higher rate than any human could enter information.
How we built it
It uses selenium which reads the page and is able to follow tasks at an accelerated rate. We programmed the ShopBot with language, Ruby on Visual Source Code. This was all done on a Windows 10 operating system.
Challenges we ran into
A challenge we ran into was when we switched our code from a Mac to Windows computer. It wasn't compatible with Windows and the installation of Ruby proved to be very difficult, even for some mentors.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we learned many new aspects to programming in the workshops that we attended while being at the hackathon.
What we learned
We leanred how to use Ruby, HTML, VR, Unity, and many other new programs.
