ShopScout
Inspiration
The idea for ShopScout came from a common shopping frustration. Many consumers visit multiple electronics stores looking for a specific product, only to discover that it is out of stock or more expensive than expected. This process wastes time, transportation costs, and effort.
I wanted to create a platform that allows people to compare nearby stores before making a purchase. Instead of driving from store to store, consumers can instantly see prices, availability, and store locations in one place.
What it does
ShopScout helps users find the right product, at the right price, in the right store.
Users can search for electronics products and compare multiple stores based on price, stock availability, and distance. The platform also provides Smart Choice, an AI-powered recommendation system that helps users identify the best overall option rather than simply choosing the lowest price.
Once a product is selected, users can place an order and track delivery through ScoutExpress.
How we built it
I designed ShopScout as a startup prototype focused on demonstrating a practical solution to a real-world problem.
The application was built using Flutter and Material 3 design principles. I created a modern user interface featuring product search, store comparison, Smart Choice recommendations, checkout functionality, and delivery tracking.
To focus on the user experience and business concept, I used mock data and simulated store inventory rather than real-time integrations.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing simplicity and usefulness. I wanted the platform to provide enough information for users to make better decisions without overwhelming them with data.
Another challenge was determining how to compare stores fairly. The cheapest option is not always the best option. A store may offer a lower price but have longer delivery times or be located farther away. This challenge led to the development of the Smart Choice feature.
We also had to think carefully about how local stores would benefit from joining the platform and how the business could scale over time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of transforming a common everyday problem into a practical startup concept.
I successfully designed a platform that combines price comparison, product availability, store discovery, AI-powered recommendations, and delivery services into a single user experience.
I am also proud of creating a clear business model and a realistic path for future growth.
What I learned
Through this project, I learned that building a startup is about much more than developing software.
I learned how to identify a real customer problem, validate a solution, think about business sustainability, and design a product that creates value for both consumers and retailers.
I also gained experience in product design, user experience planning, and startup strategy.
What's next for ShopScout
My next goal is to transform ShopScout from a prototype into a real platform.
Future plans include:
- Real-time inventory integration with retailers
- Advanced AI-powered shopping recommendations
- Price history and price-drop alerts
- Expanded delivery partnerships
- Personalized shopping experiences
- Expansion into additional product categories beyond electronics
My long-term vision is to become the leading platform for local product discovery, helping consumers shop smarter while helping retailers reach more customers.
