Shop & Level Up!

Inspiration

The concept of Shop & Level Up! draws inspiration from two of the most iconic games in the genre: PUBG and DOTA2. We combined the fast-paced shooting mechanics from PUBG with the strategic, upgrade-driven gameplay of DOTA2 to create a unique experience where players must defeat monsters, earn gold, and purchase upgrades to level up their characters.

What it does

Shop & Level Up! is a thrilling shooting game where players battle waves of monsters, collect gold, and use it to buy powerful upgrades, making them stronger and more capable of facing tougher enemies. The more monsters you kill, the more gold you earn, which allows you to purchase upgrades and abilities to level up your character and prepare for even greater challenges.

How we built it

The game was developed with the collaborative power of ChatGPT and Deepseek, which helped us with coding and game logic. For the audio, we generated immersive background music and sound effects from ElevenLabs, while the 3D models were created using assets from Freepik to bring our game world to life. The combination of these tools allowed us to efficiently build the mechanics and visuals of the game.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was fine-tuning the balance between monster difficulty and the player’s ability to upgrade. We wanted to ensure that the game remained engaging and challenging, but not overwhelming. Additionally, integrating smooth and intuitive shopping and upgrade systems, similar to what you see in DOTA2, took some trial and error to get right.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re really proud of the smooth, fluid gameplay that blends shooting action with strategic upgrades. The game offers a balance of quick action and thoughtful decision-making, keeping players engaged for longer periods. We're also happy with how the sound design and 3D assets came together to create an immersive world for players. Most importantly, we managed to achieve all of this within the limited time frame of the hackathon.

What we learned

Throughout the process, we learned a lot about how to combine fast-paced action with resource management and progression mechanics. It was a great learning experience in terms of coding the gameplay loop, designing a compelling player experience, and integrating external tools like 3D models and sound effects seamlessly.

What's next for Shop & Level Up!

We’re excited about expanding the game with more features inspired by PUBG and DOTA2, such as adding boss fights, multiplayer functionality, and more customizable character options. We also plan to add new monster types, weapons, and special abilities to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging for players at all levels.
