There is no visibility or tracking mechanism of shopfloor devices (for example igels, shop floor computers, thin clients, kronos clocks etc). There are following problems: Device status (up/down) is not known: For example: if we have multiple devices for kronos clock and if 1 device is down shop floor user uses the other devices and if all other devices are down then shop floor users report the problem. The issue is raised when no other alternate option is available for shop floor user and reporting is all through emails/phones. Physical location of device is unknown: For example: if some device has a problem and we don’t know the location of that device then it increases the issue resolution time. Device Usage: For example: some shop floor devices are not used but are still active on shop floor which adds the hardware cost to Manufacturing companies.

Proposed Solution: Create a web based application to capture shopfloor assets information (like t-tag#, IP address, name if available), we will then use the asset information to monitor the asset status using Predix APIs and using this information we will create: Asset status tracking. Graphical representation of the asset location. Device usage monitoring.

Advantages for employees or operations in a production plant:

Availability of shop floor devices: If any shop floor device is not functional operator cannot perform the work where he has to use the application and it impacts the manufacturing process. For example: If shop floor operator uses some device to capture the real time data then they have to manually do following: If using the data they perform their job then their work will impact. If they store their work in the device then they have to capture that work on some paper and wait for device to come up to capture their work. Physical location will help in resolving the device issue quickly. Device usage will help manufacturing companies to control the cost associated with that device.
