Inspiration
We both stay up to date with the news and were concerned with the number of school shootings that take place all over the country. We decided that we wanted to help out with this problem!
What it does
The school administrators can input the phone numbers of all of the students and faculty in their school (phone numbers can also be deleted). There are two messages: Report Suspicious Activity and Report Shooter. When either of these buttons are pressed by anyone in the phone number list, an alert is sent to the whole school with that specific message.
How we built it
We used MIT App Inventor to build our app.
Challenges we ran into
At first, we were not sure how to communicate information between screens. However, after watching tutorials on the internet, we figured it out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Neither of us were familiar with MIT App Inventor, so we were not sure if we could successfully accomplish this project. We are proud that we were able to pull it off.
What we learned
We learned valuable skills for creating an app and we learned many things about MIT App Inventor. Most of all, we learned how to work together as a team!
What's next for Shooter Alert
We created this app with the hope that we would be able to make a difference. We are looking forward to launching this app!
