Inspiration
I was tired of endlessly Googling how to maintain things in my home — from fridges to shower drains. Every search brought me blog posts, ads, and vague answers when I just wanted clear, practical advice.
That’s when I thought:
Why not build a tool that gives me instant, actionable maintenance tips — no noise, no clutter?
And that’s how Shiva was born.
What it does
Shiva is a responsive, AI-powered web app that helps you:
- Get maintenance tips for any household item in seconds
- See how often to maintain it, what actions to take, and which products to use
- Add a maintenance reminder directly to your calendar
- Use it in either English or French
Whether it's your fridge, your parquet floor, or your bathroom sink — Shiva gives you clean, structured advice instantly.
How I built it
Shiva was built using Bolt, an AI tool that turns natural language prompts into full-stack applications. With a single well-crafted prompt, I generated the all website :
- A minimalist, multilingual landing page
- A user input field to describe the item to maintain
- A secure backend call to an API that wraps an AI model, which returns structured maintenance advice
- A calendar integration feature to let users plan their cleaning tasks
All in just a few hours — from idea to working product.
Challenges I ran into
- Crafting a prompt that consistently produces structured, high-quality responses
- Designing a clean interface that works seamlessly in two languages
- Making the calendar integration useful and human-readable
- Ensuring fast and secure API communication behind the scenes
Accomplishments that I am proud of
- Turned a personal pain point into a real, usable tool
- Launched a fully functional, multilingual app in under a hour
- Integrated AI-driven logic with practical UX
- Kept everything lightweight and responsive
What I learned
- A single, precise prompt can replace an entire product spec
- Bolt dramatically reduces the time from idea to MVP
- Even small tools can solve real-world problems if built clearly
- Multilingual support is crucial for everyday utility
What's next for Shiva
- Add voice input for hands-free usage
- Introduce image-based item recognition
- Support recurring calendar reminders
- Let users save favorite maintenance routines
- Build a mobile app version for even quicker access
Shiva started with a simple question — and became a smart solution.
All it took was one prompt.
