Inspiration

Most builders, developers, and founders start their weeks with ambitious backlogs, only to get derailed by context switching, decision fatigue, and friction in starting tasks. At the same time, turning high-engagement mobile apps into sustainable recurring revenue is often an afterthought—marred by static, one-size-fits-all paywalls and disconnected web funnels.

We were inspired to build ShipCat AI to solve both challenges in tandem:

  1. Personal Momentum & Execution: Provide an autonomous, dopamine-reinforcing execution companion that pairs real-time Gemini AI coaching with focused sprint intervals and real-time binaural sound synthesis.
  2. First-Class Mobile Monetization: Showcase how indie creators can leverage the full power of RevenueCat Paywalls V2, dynamic A/B experimentation, consumable token packs, OneSignal push journeys, and Stripe web-to-app funnels to build a sustainable business on Day 1.

How we built it

  • Frontend & Mobile UI: React 18, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Lucide React icons, and motion/react for fluid spring physics and micro-interactions.
  • AI & Intelligence Engine: Server-side Gemini 3.7 Flash with resilient automatic retry logic and fallback routing to Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite, plus offline contextual heuristics.
  • Audio Synthesis: Custom Web Audio API oscillator architecture for carrier-wave binaural beat generation and crisp UI acoustic feedback.
  • Monetization & Analytics Layer: Native RevenueCat SDK V2 architecture mapping customer offerings, entitlement gates, and sandbox receipts.
  • Backend Service: Node.js Express server handling API routing, secure Gemini key custody, and webhook entitlement synchronization.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Seamless Paywall Template Swapping: Constructing a unified state engine capable of swapping between radically different paywall layouts (Value Stack, Feature Comparison Matrix, Countdown Urgency, and Social Proof) while preserving subscription state and checkout flows.
  2. Resilient AI Pipeline During Demand Spikes: Upstream LLMs can encounter transient 503 or capacity spikes. We engineered an autonomous generateWithResilience backend middleware that performs exponential retries, model fallbacks, and smart heuristic continuations so users never hit dead ends.
  3. Adaptive Foldable Architecture: Designing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 dual-pane interface so that the habit sprint tracker on the left pane seamlessly communicates with the AI workspace on the right without race conditions.

What we learned

  • The power of RevenueCat Paywalls V2 in dramatically reducing time-to-market for mobile monetization and enabling rapid paywall iteration without app store re-submissions.
  • How to structure multi-turn AI roleplay prompts to deliver quantitative soft-skill scoring (empathy, clarity, boundaries) that feels genuinely constructive.
