The Spark We live the problem we’re solving every single day. In the event security and field operations world, supervisors still rely on paper timesheets, handwritten break logs, and manual headcounts. Owners (mostly boomers) are deeply locked into legacy systems, and their tech support is… questionable at best. Over the last few years I’ve met with owners and offered to modernize their operations — wrapping, replacing, or improving their old systems — only to be turned down each time. Frustrated but resourceful, I started building small internal tools to fix my own bottlenecks: a schedule request viewer over a 15+yo old system, interactive training manuals, credential trackers, and venue sheets to reduce repetitive tasks/training. The moment my fellow supervisors started using them, I knew we were onto something. When the V0 Hackathon was announced, I decided to tackle the biggest daily pain point: shift deployment and paperwork.

The Problem Every shift starts the same: gather your team, manually collect names and contact info, create a break sheet, then do it all over again at the end of the shift with overtime, incidents, and signatures. Hours wasted every week on admin that should take minutes. This isn’t just our pain — it’s shared across security, catering, construction, warehousing, and any mobile/field crew operating on tight margins.

What We Built ShiftSnap — a dead-simple mobile app that lets supervisors manage an entire shift in seconds. One-tap clock in/out, real-time break & overtime tracking, incident notes with photos, and instant audit-ready timesheets — all offline-first. Built for speed in chaotic real-world environments.

How We Built It I worked directly with supervisors in the field to validate every feature. Using modern no-code + code tools like V0 and Grok, I rapidly prototyped the core flow in just a few days. The “aha” moment came from a clever engineering trick combined with a simple photo capture that replaced pages of paperwork.

What We Learned & Where We’re Going We surveyed supervisors and found overwhelming validation: “If you save me even one hour per shift, I’d happily pay $5 for it.” Over 80% said yes. The few who didn’t were mostly older or already had expensive enterprise tools. This showed us there’s a massive underserved market of small-to-medium field operations still stuck on paper. ShiftSnap was designed by field operators, for field operators — not born in a boardroom. We’re keeping it lean, fairly priced, and focused on real problems. Our goal is to help thousands of small businesses modernize without bloated SaaS pricing or complexity.
