About HomeCircle

HomeCircle was inspired by a simple problem: families often coordinate routines and check-ins through scattered chats, notes, and reminders. I wanted to bring that everyday coordination into one calm, easy-to-use place.

I built HomeCircle as a responsive dashboard alongside a Node.js server that exposes 13 structured tools through MCP. Family members can create, edit, search, filter, pause, and archive routines; record check-ins; review household insights; adjust planning preferences; and export their demo data as JSON. The dashboard can connect to the MCP server or run as a browser-only demonstration.

One important design choice was how to handle caregiver alerts. HomeCircle creates a reviewable preview and requires a separate confirmation step. In this demo, confirming only adds a local activity entry; it never sends a real message. The household information is fictional, and the project is not a medical or emergency service.

Building the project taught me how MCP tools can connect a conversational interface to structured actions, and why those actions need careful validation. One of my biggest challenges was keeping the browser-only demo and MCP-connected version consistent while managing routine states, preferences, and activity history. I also had to make the interface useful on different screen sizes without hiding the privacy boundaries.

HomeCircle is a prototype for thoughtful, voice-assistant-friendly family coordination, with human review and privacy considered from the start.
