Inspiration: Our inspiration comes from the growing number of dangers children face every day, both online and in real life. From cyberbullying and online predators to fires, accidents, and emergencies, many kids simply don’t know how to react. We were inspired to create a solution that teaches children not just awareness, but action, so they can stay calm, make smart decisions, and protect themselves when it matters most.
What it does: Our app teaches children how to stay safe by placing them in interactive, real-life, and online scenarios where they learn to make the right decisions. It provides step-by-step guidance for emergencies, builds awareness of dangers like cyberbullying or strangers, and helps kids know when and how to take action, such as calling 911.
How we built it: We initially designed our project as a fully interactive mobile app where each child is represented by a character. Through their device, kids would face real-life and online situations and choose how their character reacts. Each scenario offers three options, and after making a choice, the child receives a short lesson explaining why the decision was correct or why it may not be safe.
Due to time constraints, we adapted our idea into a web-based game prototype that focuses on showcasing these scenarios and the learning system. This allows us to demonstrate the core concept of our app: teaching children how to think, decide, and act safely in critical situations.
Challenges we ran into: Due to time constraints, we were not able to fully develop the complete mobile app as originally planned. Instead, we adapted our approach by creating a web-based prototype that summarizes our concept and demonstrates the core functionality.
While this limited the full interactive experience, it allowed us to focus on clearly presenting our idea and its impact. Our goal moving forward is to continue developing the project and bring the full app to life.
