SheSTEM is an AI-powered platform that personalizes STEM learning for women and girls, offering tailored lessons, 24/7 chatbot (Sarina), mentorship, career insights, and a collaborative community.
Inspiration: As a woman in STEM, I’ve personally experienced the challenges of navigating a male-dominated field. One of the biggest hurdles was finding personalized, accessible learning resources and mentorship tailored to my needs. Many educational platforms offer generic lessons that don’t adapt to different learning styles, and finding a supportive community of women in STEM was even harder. I wanted to create a platform that addresses these gaps — a space where girls and women can receive customized STEM education, connect with role models, and find the resources they need to succeed.
What it does: SheSTEM is an AI-powered platform designed to provide personalized STEM education for women and girls. It adapts lessons to each user’s learning style, interests, and pace. The platform also offers 24/7 support through Sarina, an AI-powered chatbot, which assists users with questions, guidance, and motivation. SheSTEM connects users with female STEM mentors, offers career insights, and fosters a collaborative community for sharing ideas and projects.
How we built it: I built SheSTEM using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, npm and other backend languages to create a responsive and interactive platform. For the AI-powered chatbot, I integrated Gemini AI with JavaScript and the Gemini API to provide real-time assistance and guidance. The platform’s personalized learning paths were developed using these technologies, while interactive tools like coding challenges and simulations help engage users.
Challenges we ran into: One of the major problems was ensuring that Sarina could provide meaningful help without being overly scripted as fostering a community that is both inclusive and supportive was key. Additionally, balancing the ongoing exams and academic commitments while crafting the perfect solution was a constant challenge. It required careful time management and juggling multiple priorities, but it ultimately helped me refine my focus and build a more effective, user-friendly platform.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: I am incredibly proud of building a platform that empowers girls and women to take control of their STEM education in a way that’s tailored to them. The AI-powered personalized learning paths and mentorship opportunities are a game-changer, providing access to resources that were previously difficult to find. The integration of Sarina as a 24/7 chatbot assistant ensures that users feel supported at every step of their journey. I have created a community where women can collaborate, share ideas, and help each other grow — something I wish I had when I started my STEM journey.
What we learned: Through this project, I learned the importance of personalization in education. Each individual has a unique way of learning, and a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t always work, especially in a complex field like STEM. We also learned how critical mentorship and role models are for women entering male-dominated industries. Women need to see others who have succeeded to feel empowered and confident in their own abilities.
What's next for SheSTEM-Educational platform for women in STEM: I m planning to add more features such as AI-powered roadmaps and career paths,virtual labs and 3D simulators to further enhance hands-on learning . My goal is to continue evolving SheSTEM into the go-to platform for women and girls to learn, connect, and succeed in STEM.
