Inspiration

The inspiration behind SheSafe came from the alarming rise in incidents affecting women’s safety, especially during daily commutes and late-night travels. Real-life stories shared through news platforms and social media made us realize the urgent need for an app that empowers women to feel safer in public spaces.

We studied existing safety tools like bSafe, Safetipin, and Raksha, but felt there was room for a more real-time, community-driven solution that combines incident reporting, safe route suggestions, and SOS alerts — all in one place. Our aim was to go beyond panic buttons and create a digital companion that prevents danger before it happens.

This app was born out of the belief that technology should not only react to emergencies but also help avoid them altogether.

What it does

SheSafe is a comprehensive women safety app designed to enhance personal security through technology. Key features include:

-Safe Route Navigation: Guides users through the safest and busiest roads using real-time location data. -SOS Alert System: Instantly notifies emergency contacts with the user's live location.

  • Incident Reporting: Allows users to report unsafe incidents, which are then shared as alerts to nearby users.
  • Real-Time Map View: Displays recent reports and hotspots based on crowd-sourced data. -Accessibility: Also it supports Voice to Text Feature

How we built it

We used the following technologies to build SheSafe:

  • Frontend: Leaflet.js for interactive maps, HTML/CSS/JavaScript for UI.
  • Backend: NOde Js for handling API requests and logic.
  • Database: SQLite for storage of incidents and user data.(Planning to do it as we dont have users)
  • Authentication: JWT-based secure login and signup system.(Planning to do it as we dont have users)
  • Integration: Location tracking, live alerts, and communication with WhatsApp for emergency contact messaging.

Challenges we ran into

Live Location Accuracy: Ensuring GPS data was accurate enough to recommend the safest route in real-time. -WhatsApp API Integration: Managing message sending without exposing user data or violating policies. -Map Routing: Safely routing through high-footfall areas without relying on third-party paid APIs.

  • Real-time Alerts: Implementing efficient incident broadcasting without lag or delay.

What's next for SheSafe

AI-Based Danger Prediction: Implementing machine learning to predict and alert users of potential threats based on past data. -Community Rating System: Letting users rate and tag places for safety. -Offline Mode: Emergency features that work without internet access. -Voice Activation: Direct call to nearby Police Station. -Collaboration with Authorities: Sharing real-time incident data with local law enforcement for quicker response.
