Inspiration

Despite living in a modern and civilized society, girls continue to suffer harassment, inequality and gender discrimination in all stages of life, leading to mental, emotional and physical health issues like depression and stress. Many girls feel insecure to openly express their feelings and emotions even to their family and friends, with the fear of being judged. Girls need a safe space where they can freely express themselves and solve their problems.

What it does

Shero is a mobile app intended to assist girls everyday in every possible way.Shero comprises of 4 components:

Diva Dude: Diva dude is a virtual forum where girls can anonymously discuss their problems and support one other. The novelty is that no abusive pictures or phrases are permitted ensuring a positive atmosphere.

Ding Dong: Ding Dong brightens your day with a customized quote to lift your moods. The messages received by the user is based on entries in the dear diary's journal section, where the text is processed and the user's mood is analyzed to give personalized motivation.

Dollar Dude: Dollar Dude helps users track their finances.

Dear Diary: Dear Diary is a personal journal where a girl can organize all her emotions and thoughts. Dear Diary serves as a wonderful companion and a safe haven to let go of her loneliness.

How we built it

Shero is built using flutter which uses firebase and SQL as backend. The step by step explanation is provided below:

• Diva Dude doesn't allow abusive images or text to be uploaded. This is implemented using Tensorflow lite. For this project prototype, we used the image of an apple as inappropriate(forbidden) image. The User's identity is always kept anonymous.

• Ding Dong message services were implemented using firebase cloud messaging and local notifications dart API. The entry of the journal is read with user's permission and used to send out personalized motivational messages. The dart sentiment analysis API analyses journal entries and provides a metric that is used to send personalized messages through the dingdong feature.

•Dollar Dude has a seamless UI that is easy navigable giving a wonderful user experience. It is built using flutter and dart.

•Dear Diary provides users with numerous emotion based templates to write their journal. The contents are read only after user's consent to provide customized motivation which can be changed at any given time.

Challenges we ran into

• The local notifications didn't function properly as we forgot to add the appropriate image in the appropriate directory.

• In the bumblebee version of android studio, AVD managers didn't function properly and above this our emulator crashed. After little research, the issue was resolved using keyboard shortcuts.

• For the detection abusive images, we couldn't gather data sets. Hence came up with the idea of using apple as the inappropriate image.

• Finally, we were running out of time.........................................................!

What's next for Lass

• Shero will soon be released in variety of languages to break the language barrier. • Shero will be added with additional features of accessing learning materials and courses for the girl's professional development. • The Dear Diary section will be equipped with stickers and mood setter to make it more user interactive.
