Inspiration

The inspiration behind SHERO: The Safety Quest came from recognizing that women and girls face safety challenges in many aspects of everyday life—not only in public spaces, but also online, at workplaces, and within personal and family relationships.

We wanted to create something more engaging than traditional awareness campaigns. We envisioned a platform where players could explore realistic situations, make decisions, understand possible consequences, and learn how to respond to challenging circumstances in a safe, interactive environment.

Our goal was to transform women's safety awareness into an experience that is educational, engaging, and empowering.

What it does

SHERO: The Safety Quest is an interactive, anime-inspired, story-driven game focused on women's safety and empowerment.

Players navigate realistic scenarios through multiple missions, make choices, interact with characters, and experience different story outcomes based on their decisions.

The game explores topics such as:

Public transportation and street safety.

Online harassment, cyberstalking, and digital blackmail.

Workplace harassment and personal boundaries.

Toxic and controlling relationships.

Domestic abuse and family pressure.

Financial abuse and independence.

Supporting friends experiencing unsafe situations.

Personal safety planning and rebuilding confidence.

Each mission combines storytelling, interactive choices, and educational feedback to help players recognize warning signs and understand safer ways to respond.

SHERO aims to make safety education accessible through gameplay rather than relying exclusively on conventional learning methods.

How we built it

We developed SHERO as a web-based interactive gaming experience, using an existing web development stack and AI-assisted development tools.

Our development process involved:

Designing a story-driven mission structure based on realistic safety scenarios.

Creating interactive gameplay with character dialogues and decision-based progression.

Developing branching narrative logic to support different choices and outcomes.

Designing an anime-inspired visual identity and comic-style storytelling experience.

Organizing mission content, character information, and scene assets for reuse.

Using GitHub for source code management and Netlify for deployment.

Using AI-assisted development tools to support implementation, debugging, and creative development.

We focused on making the experience engaging while keeping the educational purpose at its core.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We are proud to transform an important social issue into an interactive and engaging gaming experience. SHERO: The Safety Quest brings women's safety and empowerment into a story-driven environment where players can learn through realistic situations and meaningful decisions.

Our proudest accomplishments include:

  • Creating a unique game concept that combines women's safety education with interactive storytelling.
  • Bringing multiple real-life challenges, including street harassment, cyberbullying, toxic relationships, domestic abuse, and financial control, into one platform.
  • Designing a mission-based experience that encourages critical thinking and informed decision-making.
  • Building an anime-inspired visual identity to make serious topics more relatable and engaging.
  • Developing a web-based game that players can access without installing a separate application.
  • Turning our vision into a live project with a public website and GitHub repository.

Most importantly, we are proud that SHERO is more than just a gaming project. It represents our effort to use technology creatively to promote awareness, confidence, independence, and women's empowerment.

Our biggest accomplishment is giving an important message a more interactive voice: every woman deserves to feel safe, heard, and empowered.

What we learned

Through SHERO, we learned that technology can make important social topics more approachable when combined with thoughtful storytelling and interactive design.

We gained experience in:

AI-assisted application development.

Interactive game architecture and narrative design.

User experience and interface design.

Decision-based gameplay and branching logic.

Web development, debugging, and deployment.

Designing digital experiences around real-world social challenges.

We also learned the importance of empathy when building technology for sensitive issues. A good safety-focused product should inform, support, and empower users rather than make assumptions about their experiences.

What's next for SHERO: The Safety Quest

Our vision is to evolve SHERO into a comprehensive, interactive women's safety and empowerment platform.

Our future plans include:

Expanding and refining the mission library.

Introducing more realistic, branching storylines and multiple endings.

Adding consistent AI-generated anime illustrations and character expressions.

Introducing Hindi and English language support, including voice-based dialogue.

Adding verified emergency contacts and region-specific support resources.

Developing interactive safety maps and safer-route awareness features.

Introducing accessibility improvements and personalized gameplay settings.

Optimizing performance across desktop and mobile devices.

Exploring community-driven awareness activities and educational partnerships.

Ultimately, we want SHERO to become more than a game. We want it to be a digital space where awareness grows, confidence develops, and every player feels better equipped to make informed decisions.

SHERO: The Safety Quest — Every choice tells a story. Every story builds awareness. Every woman deserves to feel safe.
