Inspiration

First-gen immigrant women showing up to college with zero context on how credit works in the US. No one taught them, the resources online assume you already know the basics, and the stakes are high: one bad move with a credit card freshman year can follow you for years. We wanted to build something that actually meets these women where they are.

SheNavigates

SheNavigates is a credit literacy platform built for first-gen immigrant college women. It pairs a personalized AI chatbot that breaks down credit concepts in plain English with a document uploader that takes confusing credit reports and explains what they actually mean. We also link out to Fidelity's blog content so users can go deeper, and we built in English-Spanish translation support to lower the barrier even further.

How we built it

Frontend: HTML, CSS, Javascript Chatbot: Open AI API

Challenges we ran into

Many of us had never used the OpenAI API before, so integrating it into our website was a major learning experience. One challenge was figuring out how to provide the chatbot with new context about each user’s background and personal circumstances each time a user logged on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of our a seamless UI/UX, learning how to better use React and JavaScript, and the go-to-market plan we developed for SheNavigates

What we learned

We learned how to ship a full stack application under a time crunch, prioritize quickly, and learn from user feedback to create a better final product.

What's next for SheNavigates

We hope to add support for more languages, expand the SheNavigates experience with webinars and additional resources, and introduce a feature that shares your profile with Fidelity so you can be matched with a recruiter who speaks the language you’re most comfortable using.
