Inspiration

Saving something is easy. Finding it again is the hard part. Useful links disappear into browser tabs, screenshots pile up in Photos, and ideas end up scattered across notes and social apps. Shelvr brings those saves into one place and takes care of the organizing.

What it does

Shelvr is an iPhone app for saving links, images, and notes. AI generates useful titles, descriptions, and tags, then organizes saves into themed Spaces. A searchable feed helps you rediscover what you saved without maintaining a folder system. The app also includes a map for saved places and a swipe-based workflow for tidying screenshots.

How it was built

The mobile app uses React Native, Expo, Expo Router, and TypeScript. Convex powers the backend and reactive data, with Convex Auth for authentication. The AI categorization pipeline uses the Vercel AI SDK and Google's Gemini model.

RevenueCat presents the native paywall, manages subscription purchases, and sends subscription events to the backend. Premium access is checked on the server against subscription state, keeping access consistent with subscription changes.

Technical challenges

Saving mixed content requires handling incomplete metadata and asynchronous AI processing while keeping the capture flow simple. Another important challenge is subscription consistency: purchases happen in the native app, while backend operations must independently verify access. Shelvr uses RevenueCat webhook events and server-side entitlement checks to connect these flows.

Accomplishments

Shelvr shipped publicly on the App Store on August 31, 2026. It combines capture, AI organization, Spaces, and search in a mobile experience with RevenueCat subscription integration.

Lessons from the implementation

Fast capture and useful retrieval need to work together. AI enrichment can happen after a save, and server-side subscription enforcement needs to account for both purchase updates and expiry.

What's next

Improve capture and rediscovery based on real usage, measure the path from install to first save, and bring Shelvr to Android.
