Inspiration
My project was inspired by the stress and academic struggles that I faced in school. It was really hard for me to motivate myself to keep moving forward, but the support I had along the way helped me to keep going. I wanted to create something similar for those that don't always have access to a support system.
What it does
Shelled is a focus/motivation app to help the user to concentrate and upbuild them in the process, by chatting or sitting in silence with ai snails.
How we built it
Shelled is the built using the expo frame-work.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges I ran into was getting the Gemini api to connect to my application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of the ai integration of the application. I've never worked with ai before, so I was a bit intimidated at first. However, the gemini-3 api docs made the coding process much less intimidating. Though I still have much to improve on, I've proud of the little I was able to accomplish.
What we learned
I learned how to use react-native. For this project I wanted to challenge myself to learn something new so I decided to make that react-native. I also learned about the importance of teamwork. For this project I wasn't able to get teammates due to the time in which I joined, and it made things very difficult. Though decision making happened a lot quicker, the workload was intense.
What's next for Shelled
There is a lot of work needed to be done on shelled. I would like to incorporate a way for the user to store and log their feeling each day, to have something to reflect on over time. In addition, I would like to incorporate different personalities of the ai characters to cater more so to the user. Much work needs to be added to the design of the application as well as the backend functionality.
