Inspiration: Our website acts as a practical tool to cultivate the independence, self-discipline, and advocacy skills that the quote emphasizes as essential for students' future success. It provides a supportive structure that gradually encourages students to take ownership of their lives, preparing them for the challenges of the work world.
What it does: The platform addresses challenges in remembering and prioritizing daily habits, such as brushing teeth, bathing, and washing hands. By utilizing push notifications and progress-tracking features, the website provides personalized reminders and encouragement to help students build and maintain healthy routines effectively.
How we built it: backend - python, flask. frontend - HTML, CSS, JS
Challenges we ran into: Errors with launching our site - This is an internal error with git, which each individual group member ran into at some point. Though now solved, this is one of the hiccups we had along the way. Web notifications - We are looking into other possible options currently (such as python libraries) to create web notifications that link to the reminders that the user has set. Currently, there is a notification button that needs to lead to an actual web pop up.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We have functioning pages; 1) a “Welcome to Shell Well” page that includes a button to take users to their individualized profile. 2) a “Profile” page that displays users’ to-do lists with tasks set by them, with a progress section below that lets them know which items are checked off. Further, users can check off items and save their progress to update the progress section to display what they have completed. 3) We also were able to set up web notifications that successfully go off when the time that a user had set for a task is reached.
What's next for Shell Well: Tidying up the overall project once the previous two objectives are implemented. This will pull together our project to fulfill our goal: having an end product that is both, visually appealing and accessible!
