Inspiration

During disasters, people often struggle to access essential resources like food, water, medicines, and shelter. We realized that the biggest challenge is not always a lack of resources, but poor coordination and communication. This inspired us to build DisplaceOS, a platform that makes disaster relief more organized, transparent, and efficient.

What it does

DisplaceOS is a centralized disaster relief management platform that connects authorities, donors, and relief camps. It provides real-time mapping of affected areas and relief facilities, resource and inventory tracking, emergency alerts, relief requests, donation management, and resource transfer coordination. It helps ensure that essential supplies reach the people who need them most.

How we built it

We developed DisplaceOS as a web-based platform with an interactive user interface and centralized management system. We focused on creating an accessible dashboard, location-based visualization, resource management features, and coordinated workflows for disaster response. Our goal was to make complex relief operations easier to monitor and manage through one platform.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was bringing multiple disaster management activities into a single platform. We also faced challenges in designing an intuitive interface, organizing resource information, and ensuring smooth coordination between different stakeholders. Balancing functionality with simplicity was another important challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to develop a unified platform that addresses real-world disaster management problems. Bringing relief coordination, resource tracking, emergency communication, and donation management together is our biggest achievement.

What we learned

We learned the importance of problem-solving, teamwork, user-focused design, and building technology for real-world impact. We also understood how digital platforms can improve transparency, communication, and resource distribution during emergencies.

What's next for Shelby

We aim to integrate AI-powered disaster prediction, live GPS tracking, automated resource allocation, multilingual support, and mobile accessibility. Our long-term vision is to make DisplaceOS a reliable disaster response ecosystem that helps save lives and builds more resilient communities.
