Inspiration

What inspired us to take on this project were not only our specific experiences, but the experiences of other women of color around us--especially those with disabilities who often get left out of the job market due to inaccessibility and lack of transparency on job sites, which are crucial into knowing which companies will provide what they state. Often we go into interviews blind, not knowing if a company is A.) Accessible B.) Diverse in multiple ways C.) Offers fair and equal pay based on experience, not gender/race/school (socioeconomic discrimination)/etc. and D.) Is truly a place that is hiring and not pretending to hire diversely.

During this project we hope to learn more about blockchain, AI/MI, how to work successfully on a multifaceted team, hone the skills we already have, and to build something that we can continue even past the buildathon to better the lives of people like us. Being able to find job security is crucial for women of color, as at times we are left out of discussions of gender equality, as well as left out of resources to escape situations such as DV, poverty, etc. We deserve a safe place to find jobs to be successful not only for ourselves, but for all women of color. We want to break the glass ceiling, but be sure to send down a ladder and a helping hand for those who follow after us.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide a platform that connects women with inclusive companies offering diverse opportunities, we can empower women to overcome systemic barriers and achieve professional success. Our assumptions include the belief that companies are willing to prioritize diversity and inclusion initiatives and that women are actively seeking such opportunities.

Who We're Building For ?

Our target audience consists of women from diverse backgrounds & colors seeking equal opportunities and inclusive workplaces. Proto-personas based on our research represent typical users, such as recent graduates, mid-career professionals, and senior executives, each with unique needs and preferences.

Our Mission

Our mission is to make a tangible impact on women's rights issues by facilitating access to inclusive job opportunities, promoting diversity and equity in the workplace, and fostering a supportive community for women to thrive professionally.

Tools and Technologies

  • Frontend

    • React
    • React Router
    • Tailwind CSS
    • Figma
    • Canva
  • Backend

    • Python
    • Flask
  • Observability/Logging

    • Firebase
    • AWS
    • Blockchain services

Challenges and Bugs

One of the challenges encountered was choosing the best technology stack for the application. Our team was not too familiar with blockchain, and how to create decentralized applications. We toyed with the idea of using Hyperledger but ultimately chose Ethereum as there is more support and documentation, and ease of integration.

For the backend, we had originally planned to create the REST APIs using C++, but opted for Python using the Flask framework for ease of use, and to reduce the complexity/research of the project. Exploring how to create decentralized applications, and interact with blockchain in C++ is something that we will explore in the future.

Deployment

We deployed our project using a combination of cloud services, including AWS and Firebase.

Performance

For performance, we are focusing on using Firebase and Google Analytics to ensure optimal user experience.

Security

For security we have chosen to centralize our monitoring and logging using various AWS Services:

  • AWS CloudWatch
  • CloudTrail
  • Organizations

Future Aspects

In future iterations, we plan to focus on the following areas:

  • Enhancing user engagement and support through a dedicated community forum.
  • Incorporating user testimonials to enhance credibility and user engagement.
  • Implementing an immutable database to ensure transparency and integrity of companies' diversity data.
  • Offering comprehensive training and mentorship opportunities to empower job seekers and enhance their skill sets.
  • Enhancing observability and logging capabilities for better monitoring and troubleshooting.

Acknowledgments
