Inspiration

Our mission is to empower more women to try trading in the stock market. In today's society, many women of all ages are unsure how to get started in investing, and it is often seen as a man's field. In order to make stock trading more equitable, we created SheFinance.

What it does

Our web application SheFinance is a paper trading platform, meaning no one can lose money! It is a perfect opportunity for women of all ages to get introduced to trading, how it works, and learn that anyone can invest in stocks.

OUR FEATURES:

  1. Market Simulator (Paper Trading): The user starts off with \$10,000 to invest in various different real-life stocks. These stocks are actively being updated on the website to match the real stock. By buying and selling shares, the user can learn how to invest through our simulation!
  2. Learn & Tips: There are tips and general advice for trading throughout the web app. We also have a whole page dedicated to it! There are AI-generated tips on topics such as Savings Strategies, Investing Basics, and Debt Management.
  3. Women Empowerment: We have included a section dedicated to women empowerment in trading. This includes information, facts, and success stories on female stock traders! This inspires more women who are unsure about their place in stock trading.

How we built it

First, we created a document to brainstorm and plan out our website. This included deliverables and how our project fits into the theme of empowerment. Then we started creating our website using Visual Studio Code, Github, and GeminiAPI. We generated a rough idea of our website using Gemini and then edited it in order to fit our goals. GitHub was used throughout the whole process to collaborate on our code.

Challenges we ran into

As this was our first ever hackathon, we were not really sure how to start. However, with the help of the various workshops and by working together, we were able to learn quickly! Many of us did not how to use GitHub, so we helped each other learn. The mentors were also very helpful and explained a few Git concepts to us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Learning how to use GitHub!
  2. Learning how to use GeminiAPI.
  3. Being able to create something during our first hackathon.
  4. Working towards women empowerment in stock trading.

What we learned

We learned a lot throughout this process, many of which we already mentioned like GitHub, Gemini, but we also learned a lot about finances ourselves!
