Inspiration

Countless women in the world are running amazing businesses but facing significant barriers to reaching wider audiences. These women have innovative ideas, quality products, and services, but lack the necessary platforms to compete on an equal footing.

Driven by a desire to support these incredible entrepreneurs, Emily gathered a team of like-minded individuals who shared her vision. Together, they created SheCommerce—a dedicated platform to spotlight women-owned businesses. The goal was clear: to provide these businesses with the exposure and resources needed to thrive in the competitive marketplace.

SheCommerce isn't just a website; it's a movement to empower women, foster entrepreneurship, and build a community where female-led businesses can flourish. By promoting these businesses, we hope to inspire more women to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions and create a more inclusive and diverse business landscape for everyone.

What it does

The platform works similarly to many other online stores, except that it caters more towards female businesses. The user can search up a product of their choice, and a list of products sold by women-owned businesses will appear.

How we built it

It uses a MongoDB database to store products, HTML used for page markup, and JS and Express for all the backend.

Challenges we ran into

The team has very limited knowledge and experience in using React and coding languages other than Python. This made it very difficult for us to start and finish the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to expand our knowledge and skills in computer science. Experimenting with React was really cool.

What we learned

We learned how to use HTML, JavaScript, React, and Typescript.

What's next for SheCommerce

Add interactive map features to see the business locations Add an AI model to analyze the user’s requests and effectively suggest the products
