Inspiration
Technica started with a mission to create an inclusive and supportive community for underrepresented genders in tech through a hackathon and we wanted to take this mission one step further to a platform that connects software developers with startups.
What it does
It allows software developers to connect with owners of startups that are looking to build a team of software developers with specific skills. It also allows developers and startups to network with each other.
How we built it
We built the functionality of the matching process of developers and startups using Java. The front-end and UI was built using HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap.
Challenges we ran into
We were unsure whether to implement this as a mobile or web app. After deciding to make a web app, we weren't sure how to build the database of profiles for innovators and startups. We then decided to implement a simple front-end web app with its functionality shown using Java.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of going past our comfort zone at our first hackathon and building on the skills we already have to create something we never thought we would be able to in 24 hours.
What we learned
We learned that hackathons aren't about making the perfect and flawless hack, but about presenting the beginnings of a new idea.
What's next for SheCanStartUp
We want to implement filters in the search bar that allow users to search for specific criteria in other innovators and startups. We also want to include a feature that allows users to star the innovators/startups that catch their eye so they can return to their profiles later.
