Africa the world's second-largest and second-most-populous continent is home to over 220 million young ones. Sadly, Africa is the lowest-performing region in the world in terms of school access.

For primary completion, all other countries achieve higher than 90%. For lower secondary, the next lowest performing region has a completion rate of 75%, more than 70% higher than Africa's numbers.

Education in Africa is a major priority for us. Our mission as a team is to Educate Africa and give young ones an opportunity to learn, build solutions and be part of the change the world needs.

Using Php and Laravel, we built a solution to tackle some of the problems affecting education in Africa such as:

  1. Lack of proper facilities such as electricity, internet, and potable water.
  2. Poor state of learning facilities leading to overcrowding.
  3. Lack of learning resources such as textbooks.

Our solution a web application would give students in Africa access to free practical learning resources which could be downloaded in either video, audio, or electronic format. Students can access these resources even with low network bandwidth.

Our solution would reduce the problem of overcrowding as students would be able to access this tool from home and still benefit as much as they would when in their classrooms.

Building such an impactful solution within 5weeks is an achievement we are proud of. We had to work on this solution even with demanding school schedules such as exams, working on final projects, and attending classes. Aside from these challenges, some of us had to deal with unstable power supply and poor internet connectivity.

But we were passionate about our mission! We were determined to Educate Africa no matter what challenges we would come across!

As a team, we plan to do even more. We want to also make these resources available to students who do not have access to mobile devices and internet connection. These students would be able to access these resources via an offline podcast platform.
