Inspiration
Our journey to create Shatter was sparked by a collective passion for empowering women in their pursuit of financial freedom. We were inspired by the unique challenges women face in managing finances, from budgeting to navigating career milestones. Our aim was to create a space that not only offered practical tools but also built a strong sense of community and support. With a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, we set out to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to flourish financially.
What it does
Our financial wellness app is a comprehensive toolkit designed to address the multifaceted needs of women in their financial journey. Through the iOS app and website, users gain access to personalized budgeting tools tailored to their individual priorities, including mental health, wellness subscriptions, childcare, maternity leave savings, menstrual products, reproductive health, and college loan repayment. We've built an interactive platform that not only educates but also empowers, offering resources on salary negotiation, addressing the gender wealth gap, and investing 101 for women. Our app serves as a beacon of financial empowerment, guiding women towards financial independence and security.
How we built it
To develop Shatter, we utilized HTML and CSS for the website, SwiftUI for the iOS app, and Swift for the backend API. This combination of technologies allowed us to create a seamless and user-friendly platform, empowering women to manage their finances effectively.
Challenges we ran into
Gaining access to real-time financial data from banks proved to be a significant obstacle in the development of our financial wellness app. Despite efforts to integrate directly with banks' APIs, we encountered numerous barriers, including security measures and regulatory hurdles. To overcome this challenge, we devised a solution by creating a mock API that translated JSON data into our app, simulating the behavior of a real financial data API. While developing the mock API presented its own challenges, such as ensuring accuracy and reliability, it ultimately allowed us to provide users with the functionality they needed while respecting the limitations imposed by financial institutions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our ability to utilize various software and technologies to develop a user-friendly platform for Shatter. By creating an iOS app, a website, and a mock API, we ensured a seamless experience for users. Our platform enables women to access mentorship, networking opportunities, and professional development resources, empowering them to advance their careers with confidence.
What we learned
During the development process of Shatter, we delved into various technologies and tools, learning valuable skills along the way. We focused on creating APIs and utilizing them alongside SwiftUI, HTML/CSS, and Swift for the backend. These experiences deepened our understanding of software development and integration. We also prioritized user experience and design, aiming to create a platform that is intuitive and visually appealing for women advancing in their careers.
What's next for Shatter
Moving forward, our next steps for Shatter involve integrating with actual financial institutions to provide live-time transaction tracking and spending analysis for our users. This enhancement will offer greater transparency and convenience, allowing women to manage their finances more effectively. Additionally, we plan to conduct further research on financial tips and tricks, expanding our resources to provide even more valuable insights and guidance for career advancement and financial empowerment. By continuously improving and expanding our platform, we aim to empower women with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in their professional and financial pursuits.
