Inspiration
My brother runs operations for a security guard company managing 50 guards. Keeping track of who's certified, who's scheduled where, and staying audit-ready was scattered across spreadsheets and manual checks. SharkzPro already had the underlying scheduling and compliance features, but the interface made day-to-day use slow for someone managing dozens of guards across shifts. We used OpenAI Build Week to fix that.
What it does
SharkzPro helps security operations managers schedule guards across shifts and sites, track certification and training compliance for each guard, and keep an audit trail ready for review. This week, we redesigned the compliance dashboard, the scheduling/shift calendar, and guard profile views so a manager overseeing dozens of guards can see who's compliant, who's scheduled, and what needs attention at a glance — without digging through menus or spreadsheets.
How we built it
We used Codex to drive a full redesign across three core areas of the app: the compliance dashboard (certification/training status at a glance), the scheduling calendar (shift assignment across guards and sites), and guard profile records. Codex handled the bulk of the component rewrites, layout restructuring, and cleanup across these screens. We made the key product decisions ourselves — what information an operations manager actually needs to see first (compliance status before anything else), how shift conflicts should be surfaced, and how to keep the design usable on the fly during a shift change, based directly on feedback from a real operations manager using it.
Challenges we ran into
Redesigning three interconnected areas (compliance, scheduling, profiles) at once meant keeping data and navigation consistent across all of them without breaking existing functionality in a live product. Balancing "what Codex could generate quickly" with "what actually matches how a guard company runs day to day" took iteration — a lot of the week was going back and forth with real feedback from an actual operations manager.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We shipped a real redesign to a live product used by an actual security operations team — not a throwaway demo. An operations manager who deals with 50 guards daily can now see compliance and scheduling information much faster than before.
What we learned
Codex is fastest at restructuring and rewriting UI components once the direction is clear; the harder and more valuable work was translating a real operator's day-to-day pain points into what the interface should actually prioritize and show first.
What's next for SharkzPro
Extending the redesigned compliance view with automated alerts for expiring certifications, and using the same approach to improve the incident reporting flow next.
