Inspiration
After much discussion about our interests and backgrounds, the Goblin Sharks decided to create a web game based on the popular Japanese dating sims. During the game’s development, the team focused on UX/UI with an emphasis on creating gender-neutral characterizations for diverse user inclusion. For example, no gendered pronouns were used in this game, and the character names are meant to be gender neutral.
What it does
The look of “Shark Tails of Love” is based entirely on the dating sim format with genre tropes used in the creation of shark characters. In this first person simulation, the player takes the role of a new student at Simmons Academy, an underwater institute for sharks. The user hopes to make friends and potentially find a mate.
How we built it
We built the website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
We were not sure of the direction we wanted to take the project in terms of how to implement its features. We spent hours trying to decide and research on possible ways of bringing our idea to life.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It works as it should!
What we learned
We learned that it's important to know how to apply your skills without trying to make things/concepts more complicated than they are. It was a good experience for us to combine front-end and back-end design.
What's next for Shark Tails of Love
As this is a game, we can look into implementing and integrating further levels. Who knows???
