Inspiration
SharePlate was inspired by our concern about the huge issue of food waste in our communities and its impact on the environment and society. We intended to develop a system that would connect businesses with excess food to those in need, eliminating food waste while giving nutritious meals to people who are food insecure.
What it does
SharePlate is a Food Waste Reduction App that allows local food businesses, community organizations, and volunteers to work together to rescue excess food. Businesses can use the app to list their excess food, and neighboring organizations and individuals can request the available surplus. Volunteers then pick up the food and deliver it to those in need, helping the environment and promoting a sense of community.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the challenges, we're proud to have created SharePlate, an app that directly addresses the issue of food waste and hunger in our communities. Seeing businesses and individuals come together to share surplus food and make a positive impact fills us with a sense of pride and fulfillment.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the complexities of tackling real-world societal problems with technology while developing SharePlate. We discovered the value of user-centered design, community participation, and the power of cooperation in bringing about significant change.
What's next for shareplate
Our trip does not come to an end here. We intend to expand SharePlate reach to additional cities and areas in the future, forming collaborations with more businesses and organizations to rescue waste food. We also intend to incorporate new features, such as a real-time impact tracker and sustainability recommendations, in order to empower users and increase SharePlate effect in the battle against food waste. We're delighted to continue expanding SharePlate and creating a more sustainable and compassionate world, one plate at a time, with the help of our growing community.
