Inspiration

The idea for ShareLift was born out of the need to address the transportation hurdles faced by first-generation, low-income university students in the US. Recognizing the financial strain and limited mobility options these students encounter, we aimed to create a solution that would alleviate these burdens and enhance their access to educational and social opportunities.

What It Does

ShareLift is an app that facilitates affordable carpooling and ridesharing for university students. It connects students who are heading in the same direction, allowing them to share ride costs and reduce transportation expenses. The app features user-friendly interfaces, ride-matching algorithms, and safety measures to ensure a secure and efficient experience.

How We Built It

We are utilizing a combination of modern tools and technologies to develop ShareLift. The app is primarily being built using Flutter for a consistent and high-quality cross-platform experience on both iOS and Android. For the backend, we are implementing Firebase, ensuring a reliable and scalable database solution to manage user data and ride-sharing connections seamlessly. Google Maps API is integrated to provide accurate location tracking and route optimization for our users. For the designing we are using Adobe XD to create intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces, focusing on ease of navigation and accessibility. Wix for the website. This strategic combination of technologies allowed us to create a robust and efficient solution tailored to the needs of first-generation, low-income students. We plan to launch it in 2025!!

Challenges We Ran Into

Throughout the development process, we faced several challenges, including ensuring scalability and maintaining a user-friendly interface. We also encountered difficulties in promoting the app effectively to first-generation, low-income students. Overcoming these challenges required innovative solutions and a deep understanding of our users' needs.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

We are proud of successfully developing a functional prototype that addresses a significant issue for our target audience. The positive feedback from friends and family and the partnerships we're planning yo form with universities are going to be key achievements. Our team’s collaboration and problem-solving abilities have been crucial in bringing ShareLift to life.

What We Learned

Throughout this project, we learned the importance of understanding user needs and incorporating feedback into our development process. We enhanced our technical skills and gained insights into the unique challenges faced by our target audience. The experience also highlighted the value of teamwork and adaptability in overcoming obstacles.

What's Next for ShareLift

Looking ahead, we plan to expand ShareLift’s features, including integration with campus events and improved route optimization. We aim to scale the app to additional universities and regions, broadening its impact and accessibility.
