Inspiration

Claude AI gave us this idea.

What it does

It functions as what we like to call a large wall of graffiti but in outer space. People can add their own constellations to one large shared sky, observe other people's creations, or go into a singleplayer mode and shape the cosmos however they want it.

How we built it

We used code generated by ChatGPT as a base, then heavily added to it with our own modifications and ideas before combining the best features of our respective codes (main menu, shooting stars, ripple effects, etc.) to make the final product.

Challenges we ran into

The code didn't work how it was supposed to and we had to troubleshoot more than expected.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It's a public website, all four of us contributed at least one core feature that's important to the game, and it runs very smoothly.

What we learned

We learned about the mistakes made by generative AI and the amount of communication which was needed to combine our code in the end.

What's next for Shared Skies

Color options for the background, customizable star colors over randomized colors, and seasonal resets. (Shared Skies constellations are permanent.)
