Inspiration
I’ve always been interested in the intersection of food, health, and technology. While there are plenty of recipe and meal planning apps, I noticed that most of them are either too rigid, lack personalization, or don’t make nutrition tracking simple. I wanted to create something that not only helps people eat healthier but also makes meal planning more fun and social.
How I Built It
Frontend: React Native for a seamless cross-platform experience (iOS + Android)
Backend: Supabase for authentication, database management, and cloud sync
AI Integration: OpenAI models for meal generation and nutrition estimation
Additional Tools: RevenueCat for subscriptions, Expo for development and deployment
What I Learned
How to integrate AI into a mobile workflow for practical, everyday use cases
The importance of clean UX when dealing with something as complex as nutrition tracking
End-to-end app lifecycle: from concept → design → build → testing → publishing on the App Store
Managing subscriptions and free trials with RevenueCat + Apple App Store
Challenges
Navigating App Store requirements, from encryption compliance to free trial setup
Building a smooth meal calendar UI that feels intuitive across devices
Balancing feature depth with performance to keep the app fast and user-friendly
Outcome
The result is Shareable Meals, a mobile app that:
-Generates personalized meals with AI
-Tracks macros and nutrition automatically
-Creates smart grocery lists from planned meals
-Lets users join weekly cooking competitions and share recipes with the community
Ultimately, the project taught me how to combine technical execution with product thinking, and how to turn an idea into a polished, user-ready app.
