Inspiration
I wanted a game that wasn’t just mindless tapping, but also not a slow puzzle you play once and forget. Shape Shifter was born out of the idea of combining the speed and flow of arcade games with the logic and challenge of puzzles. A game that pushes you to think fast and react faster.
What it does
You control a glowing orb flying through an endless neon tunnel. Gates rush toward you, each demanding a specific shape, color, or symbol combination. Your job: morph your orb to match before impact. Swipe to change shapes Swipe vertically to shift colors Tap to toggle numbers/symbols Match correctly - pass safely, earn points, build combos. Mess up - crash into the gate, game over. The game gets faster the longer you survive, layering in tougher rules: shapes - colors - numbers - multi-attribute gates.
How we built it
Using Base44 prompting website
Challenges we ran into
Creating the right prompt that would fit in the challenge of "5 prompts or less"
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a game that feels fun and mentally engaging. Nailed the neon aesthetic and smooth morph animations. Created difficulty scaling that keeps players hooked but not overwhelmed.
What we learned
Base44 is a powerful website and some of us need to be worried.
What's next for Shape Shifter
Add leaderboards and social challenges (who can last the longest?). Design special themed levels (sci-fi, fantasy, abstract art). Explore a light personality system that labels players based on how they morph (fast/reactive = “The Reactor,” careful/precise = “The Analyst”).
