Inspiration

I was inspired by playing top-down shooters like Hotline Miami. I also really wanted to create a unique arcade game. I decided to combine the game ideas into one and I ended up making an arcade top-down shooter!

What it does

This is an arcade game that combines multiple genres and is designed for endless fun.

How we built it

I used C# programming and the unity game engine to create this game. It took me 12 hours and it was really fun!

Challenges we ran into

The code was relatively easy, but I challenged myself with adding polish to the game like animations and extra art. It was really cool seeing a game slowly feel more like a finished product as I added subtle details. I think creating a fully complete feeling is extremely challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am very proud of finishing the project in a 12-hour all-nighter. I surprised myself at my ability to sit for so long smashing keys like a monkey until the code worked.

What we learned

I learned how to create more efficient systems for my future development. For example, I learned the importance of using an Enemy class to control Enemy subclasses so I can avoid reusing code. I also learned a lot about the capability of Unity's animation system.

What's next for Shape Haven

The future for this game is bright. It is endlessly expandable, and I plan on working on the game to create more features, smoother gameplay, and a better experience.
