Inspiration

I was burnt out, underpaid, underutilized, and sad all the time. I kept showing up, smiling on Zoom, pushing through — but inside, I felt hollow. It wasn’t just me. Through journaling and some late-night research spirals, I realized how many women — especially women of color — were silently drowning in exhaustion and emotional neglect. Not because we’re weak, but because we were never taught how to rest, reset, or reflect without shame. That’s where the idea for shame.less was born: a soft place to land when life feels like too much.

What it does

shame.less is a culturally rooted mental health app that helps women of color care for themselves without guilt. When you open the app, you're invited to check in emotionally, track tiny wins, release heavy feelings, and receive affirmations that actually feel like they see you. It's a daily rhythm—part journal, part ritual, part mirror—helping you heal yourself in small, consistent, shameless steps.

How we built it

We started with real conversations—in DMs, group chats, and our Skool community—to deeply understand what emotional support should feel like. From there, we prototyped using no-code tools and user feedback, prioritizing calm UX, culturally resonant language, and features inspired by behavioral science and The Shameless Method™. The MVP was designed to feel like a safe space from the first tap.

Challenges we ran into

Designing mental health features that are helpful but not triggering

Building something accessible without diluting the cultural integrity

Balancing tech innovation with emotional intimacy

Fighting the urge to over-polish — when what people really need is something that feels like care, not perfection

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a trauma-informed check-in flow that feels affirming, not clinical

Building a waitlist of users who found us through pure resonance — no paid ads

Seeing real community members say, “I’ve been needing this for years”

Staying rooted in our values while dreaming big

What we learned

You don’t need to be perfect to be powerful — just intentional

Small, daily rituals matter more than big, overwhelming solutions

Women of color are ready for tools that speak our language, hold our grief, and remind us of our softness

Culturally grounded wellness isn’t a niche — it’s a necessity
