Inspiration

Buying beauty products online is a gamble. Shoppers can't tell whether a shade suits their skin tone or whether a product suits their skin type, so they guess, and returns and disappointment follow. We wanted to give online shoppers the confidence of an in-store consultation, right from their phone.

What it does

GlowMatch AI analyzes a user's skin from a single selfie, detecting concerns such as texture, dark spots and oiliness. It then lets the user virtually try on matching makeup shades and see the result on their own face in real time before buying. Shoppers get personalized product suggestions instead of endless scrolling.

How we built it

The app is a mobile-friendly web app built with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React. It uses the YouCam API for AI skin analysis and virtual try-on. The skin analysis results drive the product recommendations, and the try-on feature shows the chosen product on the user's face.

Challenges we ran into

Building entirely on a phone with limited resources meant keeping the app lightweight and fast. We also had to make sure the experience feels simple for non-technical shoppers, with clear results and minimal steps.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a complete flow from selfie to skin analysis to try-on to product suggestion, designed for real online beauty stores.

What we learned

We learned how AI skin analysis and virtual try-on can work together to reduce buyer uncertainty, and how important a simple, mobile-first design is for everyday shoppers.

What's next for GlowMatch AI

Next we plan to add more product categories (skincare, hair color, accessories), integrate with eCommerce platforms like Shopify so store owners can add it to their shops, and support more skin tones and languages, including Urdu.
