Inspiration

Shadefall was inspired by the feeling of leaving safety behind and seeing a warm light in the distance when everything around you is dangerous. We wanted to make a survival game where the player does not build a private base, but instead earns trust with villages and survives by becoming part of a larger world.

We also wanted the world to be new every time you play, leveraging AI in a novel way to make procedural world-gen feel meaningful and story-based rather than bland combinations of pregenerated components.

What it does

Shadefall is a mobile survival and exploration game where players prepare in villages, carry light into dangerous wilderness, complete generated village questlines, gather resources, survive nightfall, and return before the darkness overwhelms them. Villages unlock crafting, bodyguards, homes, Waychests, patrol support, and clues that eventually lead to Prime Shade.

How we built it

The design uses LLM-assisted world generation to create village identities, questlines, rivalries, and boss clues, while keeping the actual game systems deterministic and buildable.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was balancing ambition with readability and scope. Shadefall has villages, trust, co-op, bodyguards, crafting, light survival, danger tiers, and generated stories, so we had to keep trimming the design back to the clearest version of the core loop: prepare, push into danger, survive, return, and earn trust.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a survival concept where villages replace bases and trust becomes a real progression system. The light mechanic also gives the game a strong identity, because it turns every expedition into a risk/reward decision instead of just another resource run.

What we learned

We learned that a strong survival game does not need every possible system; it needs a few systems that reinforce each other. For Shadefall, the most important lesson was that villages, light, and expeditions all had to point toward the same emotional promise: push farther, but make it back alive.

What's next for Shadefall

Next, we would build a focused MVP.
