Inspiration

With the advent of globallisation, the world increasingly becomes more interconnected. This means that (COVID19 aside) more Singaporeans would be travelling abroad with the increasing ease and availability of travel. One major inconvenience that we face (and our interviewees too) is the access of information, particularly when we need them. As such, we came up with an idea to develop a mobile application which can allow Singaporeans to easily access information they might need while having limited access to a desktop or laptop. Furthermore, Singaporeans are known to love holidaying, so such an application can be useful for the large demographic of Singaporeans, not only specific to those who reside abroad.

What it does

SGXplore is a mobile application which serves to bridge the gap and make it more convenient for Singaporeans to access information while overseas. As non-locals, either short-term tourists or long-term residents, what is common across both demographics is the availability and ubiquity of the smartphone. With a smartphone application that can allow us to access information that we might potentially need while overseas, SGXplore acts as a one-stop mobile application which we can turn to for convenience when filling in forms, applying for permits or licences, or topping up our cards for epayment abroad.

How we built it

We used Figma to create wireframes of a mobile application. We adhered to iOS's UX and UI design principles to ensure that our application's user experience is not jarring.

Challenges we ran into

We had limited experience with UX design, thus we are not very sure on what framework to follow when considering a user's experience when using our application. Hence, we used a User Experience Scenario instead.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Most of us were first time Figma users, but we managed to learn and take advantage of the functionalities that Figma offers to develop wireframes of an application. Also, with limited experience with UX considerations, we are glad that we managed to pick up some important design principles which improves the user experience, that should be considered before delving into the development of a mobile application.

What we learned

Figma, UX design principles.

What's next for SGXplore

Implement it in code, implement more features that other users might require, consider security implications of having such information in a mobile application.
