Inspiration
As there are 3 commuter students within our group, we wanted to create a project that would serve and benefit the SFU commuter body. We thought of a carpool matching website that would make it more efficient for day-to-day transport from home to campus and vice-versa.
What it does
Campus Interactive Map Start at TC, integrated with a map API. Shows where SFUber location in real-time
Peer Carpool Matching Find listings, similar to craigslist Allows drivers and riders to connect by setting up a profile and browse listings
SFU Driver Verification System TO ensure safety and compliance of regulations of drivers
How we built it
Using HTML, CSS, Cursor. We started by brainstorming
Challenges we ran into
Brainstorming was a significant challenge. We wanted to be able to have as unique of an idea as possible, while still maintaining real world applications. Since this is our first hackathon, we were inexperienced with HTML and CSS, so we turned to vibecoding agents.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our first 24hour hackathon, we are proud we created a functional and user-friendly website. Key points are the interactive map API and matching system.
What we learned
We learned vibe coding guidelines. As head chef, we learned how to use it to cook the ingredients with AI as sous chefs. Preparing for the hackathon, we tried cramming as much HTML, CSS and JS/react knowledge and hoped for the best.
What's next for SFUber
Creating a functional payment system. Replace reliance on vibecoding agents for creation of programs with our own knowhow, using AI to guide the code and act as 'executive chefs' rather than apprentices of the AI itself.
